about the tool

The Medici web site will be under maintenance from 27/11 to 10/12 2010. There may be disruptions to normal service. Thank you for your understanding.

During the nine week attachment each student is expected to use the eMedici Author tool to develop a case study. The topic for the case study can be of the individual's chosing and must be based on a patient that they have seen during the attachment.

The case study must contain:

  1. The essential elements of the history and physical examination findings
  2. A diagnosis, differential diagnoses or problem list
  3. Concise details of management in terms of investigation and treatment
  4. A brief dissertation on an item of interest derived from the case
  5. An evidence-based approach to the dissertation
  6. A reference list - stating the level of evidence of each source
  7. The source of any images used (copyright issues) must be stated

Apart from being an essential component of the assessment, each case will be judged on its merits for:

  1. Formal inclusion in emedici.com
  2. A cash prize for the best case during the particular attachment
  3. An end-of year named surgical prize for the best case produced during the year
